Greyton Classic MTB & Trail Run – Newsletter #2

Clipboard01We’re just a month away from the big day, and have started preparing for this great event with big fervour!  So what has developed since our 1st newsletter of a month ago, where we announced the whopping R15000 prize money up for grabs this year?

Have a look –

A brand new 65km addition to the MTB event! We have done the route trial rides and have started preparing those amazing routes that people talk about after the event each year!  The routes were uploaded last week, see them here.

Conrad Stoltz, ‘the Caveman’, joined us on one of the trial rides and decided that he just HAS TO do this event!  Conrad is supporting us with a full endorsement and will be on the start line on all 3 days of the event! The MTB tour will be the ideal opportunity to ride with Conrad, rub shoulders with him and fire your questions at the 4 x Xterra World Champ!

State-of-the-art timing system – we have a brand new system this year, bringing you the following features and benefits:

  1. Live results streamed to our website and to Great-Time
  2. Live results look-up at the venue – just enter your race number
  3. Finish line photos will be streamed live to the website and to Facebook
  4. No timing chip required, everyone will be timed and get their results!
  5. Results will also be emailed – please ensure we have your address

Kiddies race – The small ones on their 16″ and 20″ wheels will get their chance at racing too! We will host a kiddies 2km race in Greyton on 14 June, right after the start of the 10km trail run! No wheels bigger than 20″ allowed, mom and dad may ride with them!

Country hospitality – come and enjoy the warm country hospitality of Greyton – plenty restaurants, coffee shops, art corners amidst the incredible beauty of the area.

Great weather – Touch wood, we have never had rain during the event through the 7 years of it’s history! During previous events it rained and stormed in Cape Town, Stellenbosch etc, with not a drop in Greyton! People watching their local weather were very disappointed for not looking what the weather in Greyton was all about!

Specialized prizes – Helderberg Cycle World, the 1st Specialized Concept Store in the Western Cape, will be giving away a Specialized Pitch or a Specialized Jynx as lucky draw prize at the end of the day, together with lots of other prizes!

Thule prizes – Thule Partner Somerset West has donated bike racks and back packs as prizes for this year’s event.

MTB Tour – At the MTB Tour on 15 June, we will have a couple of “water” stops at some of the farms in the area where you will be able to taste some of their finest produce. At this stage The Oaks are in with strips of their succulent N’guni steaks – watch this space for more details and for final route details.

The trail run routes & profiles have been uploaded – more details here. These routes offer an amazing mix of everything a trail runner wants, and offer some of the best views out there of the valley and mountains that surround Greyton.
